The Morning Report

2026-08-27

Today's picture: European shares closed little changed on Wednesday as investors weighed Iran-Oman talks and sticky US inflation, while Aker's Nscale signed a roughly $45bn AI infrastructure deal with Anthropic that puts a Norwegian-linked company at the centre of the AI capital-expenditure boom (FT; DN). After the European close, Nvidia's guidance for 70% sales growth reignited the AI trade in US futures, a signal that will frame sentiment into Thursday even though it landed too late to move Wednesday's cash indices (FT; Bloomberg).

European trading stays muted even as underlying eurozone growth surprises higher.

The Euro Stoxx 50 rose 0.23%, the DAX 0.08% and the CAC 40 0.27% on the day, though the CAC is down 2.18% over five sessions and remains 3.3% below its record; the FTSE 100 slipped 0.07% as investors tracked Iran-Oman talks alongside US inflation data (Reuters). The macro backdrop is not weak: eurozone GDP grew 0.4% q/q in the second quarter (1.0% y/y), up from stagnation in the first quarter (Eurostat), while headline HICP inflation rose to 2.94% y/y in July from 2.75%, and core HICP to 2.47% from 2.36% (FRED). Unemployment held at 6.3% (ECB). The ECB has held its deposit rate at 2.25% since June and signalled it is on hold as of its 23 July statement, but the drift higher in core inflation narrows the room for that stance to persist unchallenged into the 10 September decision (ECB). Counter-evidence: the acceleration in eurozone GDP growth to 0.4% q/q sits awkwardly with a "muted" characterisation of sentiment, since equities barely moved despite a genuine growth upside surprise.

Aker's Nscale-Anthropic deal puts Norway in the AI infrastructure story, but the broader index has not re-rated.

Nscale, backed by Aker, signed an AI data-centre agreement with Anthropic reportedly worth around NOK 420bn, one of the largest such commitments involving a Norwegian-linked company to date (FT; DN). Oslo Børs (OSEBX) closed at 2,094.40, down 0.17% on the day but up 1.36% over five sessions, sitting 0.5% below its record level (TradingView). The krone firmed modestly against both majors, with EUR/NOK at 10.88 (-0.24% over five days) and USD/NOK at 9.33 (-0.79% over five days) (ECB). Norway equity exposure (USD-listed ETF) fell 1.05% on the day and is up 1.94% over five sessions; priced in dollars, its swings also reflect USD/NOK moves and not equity performance alone (Finnhub). Norges Bank's policy rate stands at 4.25% since its 8 May hike, with the next decision due 24 September; the registry carries no signalled direction, so the path from here should be read as unclear rather than assumed (Norges Bank). Counter-evidence: the OSEBX itself fell on the very session the Anthropic deal was reported, indicating the rally is not broad-based across the index.

Frozen sample day from the app. An excerpt, not the full edition. The demo shows two of the day’s five stories and two of three price tables.

How it is made

  1. 01

    Fetch

Macro figures from FRED, the ECB and Norges Bank, market data and news metadata from a register of sources. Never article full text, only headline and deep link.

  2. 02

    Rank

Candidates are deduplicated and scored by a language model against a fixed theme profile covering central banks, rate paths, market regimes and Norwegian macro.

  3. 03

    Write

The brief is written in English and Norwegian in one structured call, with a source link required on every point and a counter-evidence line in every story.

  4. 04

    Deliver

Runs automatically every morning and is published as a static page with a language toggle, price tables and audio playback.

Traceability

Every run logs everything sent to the model, meaning all macro figures, all news candidates and every relevance score with its rationale. Any figure in the brief can be traced back to the log for that date.

Each datapoint carries its own date and source. If a field grows too old it is degraded and flagged rather than presented as fresh, and the brief closes with a source footer stating the oldest datapoint and the number of degraded fields.

Data sources

FRED, the ECB, Norges Bank, Eurostat, the Atlanta Fed, Finnhub and an RSS register including the FT, WSJ, Bloomberg, The Economist and DN.
